Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about storm damage, insurance claims, and working with Roof Kings of Nebraska.
Will my insurance cover my roof replacement?
If your roof was damaged by a covered peril — hail, wind, fire, or another event named in your policy — your insurance should pay for the damage, which often means a full roof replacement. The key is proper documentation. That’s what our free inspection does: we document the damage to the standard your carrier requires, then manage the claim so nothing is missed.
How do I know if my roof has storm damage?
You often can’t tell from the ground. Hail bruises shingles, wind lifts and creases them, and both compromise your roof’s ability to protect your home long before leaks appear. Our free inspection includes a detailed, photographed assessment — you’ll see exactly what we see.
Is the inspection really free?
Yes. Our inspection costs nothing and obligates you to nothing. We’ll show you our findings with photos, explain what your insurance is likely to cover, and answer your questions. What you do next is entirely your decision.
Do I need to be home when the insurance adjuster comes?
You’re not required to be there, but we recommend it — and either way, our representative will attend. If your insurance company contacts you directly to schedule the inspection (which happens often), call our office at 402-284-5777 with the date and time so we can make sure someone from our team is there.
What if the insurance company calls me directly?
This happens frequently — carriers often schedule inspections with the homeowner instead of going through us. That’s fine. Just let us know the date and time as soon as it’s set by calling 402-284-5777, and we’ll have a representative at the inspection.
How long does an insurance claim take?
It varies. A straightforward claim can move from inspection to approval in a few weeks; complex claims involving supplements, reinspections, or disputes can take several months. We keep you informed at every stage and press the carrier to keep things moving.
What is a supplement?
A supplement is a request for additional funds when the insurance company’s initial estimate misses items or undervalues the work — which happens on most claims. We audit every estimate line by line against our own documentation and file supplements with photographic evidence until the scope is correct. It’s a standard part of the process, not a confrontation.
What if my claim is denied?
A denial is not the end. We review the denial against your policy language, gather whatever documentation the carrier says is missing, and request a reinspection. Many of our largest claim approvals started as denials.
What if the insurance estimate is too low?
This is one of the most common problems we solve. Initial estimates routinely omit flashing, starter courses, ventilation, and code-required upgrades. We file a supplement documenting every missed item at proper pricing. You should never have to accept an estimate that doesn’t cover the real scope of work.
Will filing a claim raise my insurance rates?
Storm damage claims are typically classified differently from liability claims. In most states, insurers cannot single you out for a rate increase because of a weather-related claim — though we recommend confirming the specifics with your agent. What we can tell you: waiting too long to file can jeopardize your coverage, since policies have filing deadlines.
What is the difference between ACV and RCV?
ACV (Actual Cash Value) is what your roof is worth today, accounting for age and depreciation. RCV (Replacement Cost Value) is what it costs to replace it now. Most policies pay ACV up front and release the remaining depreciation (the difference) once the work is complete — which is why finishing the job and filing for recoverable depreciation matters. We handle that paperwork for you.
My shingles were discontinued. What does that mean for my claim?
It often means you’re entitled to a full roof replacement rather than a partial repair — most policies require repairs to match the existing material in quality and appearance, which is impossible with a discontinued product. Carriers sometimes dispute this. We research product availability and, when needed, obtain independent laboratory analysis proving discontinuation.
Do you work with my insurance company?
We’ve worked with virtually every major carrier — State Farm, Travelers, Allstate, American Family, Foremost, and many others. The process is the same regardless of carrier: document thoroughly, file properly, and hold the estimate accountable.
Do you handle commercial properties?
Yes. We restore commercial roofing systems — flat, TPO, EPDM, metal, and shingle — for businesses, multi-unit properties, and institutions. As a branch of Lucas Allen Mid-Atlantic Group, we bring the same documentation discipline trusted on schools, hospitals, and portfolio properties.
What areas do you serve?
We’re based in Omaha, Nebraska and serve the metro and surrounding areas.
